Libraries Re-opening Information

From Monday 6 July, you will be able to reserve books online on this platform (the library catalogue), on the Library App (App Store or Google Play) or by telephone*, and collect them from the door of your library or mobile once available. As at 1pm on Friday 10th July, we are having problems with our telephone system at libraries and the telephone reservations are temporarily unavailable.

We are currently unable to notify via email or text when items are ready to collect, but your online account will show when items are available, so we recommend logging in to check the status of your order.

Browsing is not available during this initial phase of reopening.

Returned items can be placed by customers directly into a special sack and books will be quarantined for 72 hours before being cleaned and reshelved by staff.

Mobile Library customers will be contacted from Monday 6 July by text, email or telephone to discuss the new opening hours and the order and collect service.

Overdue fines have not been applied during the lockdown period, and are suspended until further notice.

We will keep our website updated, so please check here for the most up to date information and all safety aspects of re-opening.

Description:
It is now 100 years since drugs were first banned. On the eve of this centenary, journalist Johann Hari set off on an epic three-year, 30,000-mile journey into the war on drugs to uncover its secrets - and he found that there is a startling gap between what we have been told and what is really going on. As strange as it may seem at first, drugs are not what we have been told they are; addiction is not what we think it is; and the drug war has very different motives to the ones we have seen on our TV screens. In 'Chasing the Scream', Hari reveals his startling discoveries entirely through the true and shocking stories of people across the world whose lives have been transformed by this war.

Reviews
This is a fascinating read. Initially I picked this book up thinking that it was about mental health like Lost Connections, but got ‘hooked’ into the story & science behind drugs prohibition. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in anything to do with being human!
